plasmoids: (you turn me into somebody loved)
My inbox has been really full lately, so if you're getting late comment replies, I apologize. I don't know what I've been doing, but my inbox just went from 40 messages to 10, so yeah. Here's a meme I managed to forget about!

Reply to this entry and I will give you five prompts. Think of a song that fits each prompt, post the five songs to your journal, and explain your choices. Give prompts to the people who reply to you.

My prompts from curiositykate: Nostalgia, winter, distance, royalty, needle.

(For people on DW, anyway.)

My resolutions are basically

1) get another job, and

2) read all those books on the shelf I haven't read yet. And don't buy anymore! But I doubt that will actually work out.

Anyway, I'm sick. Back to bed. /gurgles

Hope you guys are having a great day, no matter what you do or don't celebrate!

As promised (I don't know HOW I managed it - I think it was all the free time, lol), I finished everyone's fanfics! Hooray! They're all available over at [livejournal.com profile] avaunts, which I am directing you to because I am too tired to from uploading and formatting them to link to them individually. 8Db Those of you who requested fanfics, let me know if you want the original .doc files emailed to you.

Mostly winter-y sleeping stuff. I am need of some pajamas tops & bottoms, slippers, fuzzy socks and maybe even a bathrobe. This one, in particular, caught my eye. I'd like it in the "Uhura" style, but of course it's out of stock. SHRUG.

I could also use some car and apartment stuff, as we just got a car, and it looks like we might also have an apartment soon (!!!), but I don't want to push it. 8D

I don't usually watch/like SNL, but this is hilarious. Sorry to those of you outside of the US; this video probably won't work for you.

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood Amendment
Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

plasmoids: (KH || out comes the evil)
Larxene, number XII of Organization XIII, is a character from the Kingdom Hearts game series. I will be the first to admit that after KH2, I gave up on the franchise. There were just too many games for too many different systems that I did not own. But when I was super into the games, I was a little in love with Larxene. And who wouldn't be? She was badass, she was ruthless and she was awesome. But sadly, Larxene got the brunt of the hate when it came to bashing female characters in the games. She wasn't like the other girls, who were quiet and princess-y. And she interrupted the perceived sausage fest that is Org XIII.

Oh boo hoo. I'm not going to be introspective about it. Larxene was hated for all the wrong reasons, and even if you don't love her, there's no reason to hate her. So here, have an FST.

Schadenfreude: A Larxene FST )

I'll be putting this up on 8tracks soon, too, but first, I must go to the dentist!

EDIT Now available on 8tracks!

Hey, I just wanted to give you guys a heads-up about this. There's a new comm called [livejournal.com profile] womenlovefest about giving love to female characters fandom hates. They're currently taking submissions of the different ways fandom shows their love, and I know a lot of you are passionate about certain characters, and how female characters are treated in fandom in general, so I think it would be right up a lot of your allies. I'm tempted to submit some things myself (People hate Jessica Jones?! Kate Beckett?! Luna Lovegood?! Say WHAT?!), but due to my usual procrastinating tendencies, I might not manage. Thankfully, though, it's an on-going thing, so maybe if it's still going by next year, I'll get something submitted.

But yeah, everyone go take a look! I encourage those of you who feel strongly about stuff like this to think about submitting something. I bet you have awesome things to say. :)

I'm kind of behind on taking off old/abandoned journals, so I'm doing that right now. I am also trying to be not-an-idiot and add those of you who moved journals that I accidentally missed. Sorry for currently being an idiot. Also taking off some active/semi-active journals, because I'm pretty sure we haven't talked/interacted/been friends in general. No hard feelings. ♥
plasmoids: (insert creepy onomatopoeia here)
Oh my God, I swear I'm alive. The move took over my life for a while, but now I'm in the (much, much cooler) Bay Area, plan to stay, unemployed and I finally have internet access. It's nice. (b'-')b

Real update coming when it's possible.

Okay guys, here comes the truth train. Choo choo!

Uh, I mean.

I started an off-LJ blog. Yay!

I know that doesn't actually rhyme, but I like to say it sometimes. 8D

[livejournal.com profile] curiositykate asked me some questions!

1. Who are your heroes?
YOU, KATE. ♥

Haha, I'm not much of a "hero" person, I think? I have people I admire and think are cool, but nothing so... Idk, idolize-y. I guess if I had to pick someone it would be Junko Mizuno. I wish I could be half as good an artist.

2. If you had a cat, what would you call it?
If it was a boy it would be Kafka, and if it was a girl, Kafuka. Other than that, though, I'm not sure, nor do I think I would name them both Kafka/Kafuka if I had a boy and girl. I think I'd probably only have one cat a time, and if I did have more than one, they would probably both be girls. No idea what I'd name the other one, though!

3. How did you and Erik meet?
(No, it's not to personal, haha.)

Believe it or not, we met on FictionPress. Yeah, the sister site of Fanfiction.net. He wrote a story, I left a review, he contacted me and the rest is history. It's kind of dorky admitting this, actually, lol.

4. Who was your favourite My Little Pony when you were a kid?
I didn't like MLP when I was a kid! I wasn't really into "girly" things back then, and even if I was, I'm not sure MLP would have held my interest. I tried watching some of its earlier incarnations a little while ago and it was pretty dull. I don't know if as I child I would recognize that, but as a 23 year old, it bored me/kind of creeped me out. I was not expecting all the ponies to sound like children. It was just too weird for me.

5. What was the first Neil Gaiman book you ever read?
I think it was the first volume of Sandman. A friend let me borrow it in high school and I was immediately hooked. I went on to read more of his comics, then Coraline and finally his adult novels and short stories.

ALSO PLEASE GIVE ME THE LINKS TO YOUR OFF-LJ BLOGS. Yes, there's a reason I'm asking. No, I'm not telling you why yet.

Did a small f-cut. Unadded people who hadn't been posting. That is all.

Ah, I tried writing a post for [livejournal.com profile] ontdcreepy last night, about a particularly creepy building on Temple's campus, but my browser crashed and ate it. C'est la vie.

So I'm posting because I want to do some plugging. I'll talk about myself again properly after my life stops eating me alive. Or, um, something.

[livejournal.com profile] curiositykate is in financial straits right now, and is selling some of things here. If you're not a member of the comm, I'm sure she wouldn't mind you PMing her. She also sells cute knit items at her Folksy shop, here. Please consider taking a look.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] kihanna is doing $1 commissions for charity, here. Go ask her to draw things, because she's really good at it!

Thanks for listening. ♥

Say you were meeting a new person, blind date, new friend, who knows, and you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words.

Instead, you have to give them a box, with a baker's dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box?

  • A copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

  • The cooler contents of my purse: My American McGee's Alice wallet, Hello Kitty LV imitation pouch, pink mini umbrella, Icing's nail kit and Forever21 mirror compact. (Counting this as five.)

  • Young Justice Volume 1 (the comic, not the show)

  • Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett

  • Something by Junko Mizuno

  • Some of the early episodes of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

  • Pictures of my two best friends ([livejournal.com profile] scistor_skizzer, why don't I have a picture of you that's not 5+ years old?)

  • One of the My Little Pony figures I recently acquired

  • A burned CD of my "life soundtrack" or whatever you would call this

In other news, I kind of want to show you guys Mt. Recycling, but it is currently too hazardous to photograph.

Oh! And I won a contest today! I am super excited to read this book, as I've been trying to get my hands on it for a while. I'm not usually into romance novels, but Faye L. Booth's books sound like - ahem - my cup of tea.
